Ciao is a high-quality Dutch-built motoryacht that’s designed for serious ocean-going passages at high speeds in comfort. Noise and vibration levels are exceptionally low throughout the vessel. She defines a category called “Fast Displacement Motoryachts”. Due to a combination of hull material, hydrodynamic design, and the application of variable pitch props, this displacement motoryacht is capable of speeds exceeding 22 knots yet can slow cruise burning only 4 gallons per hour.
This yacht is made of a special alloy called Sealium which is produced by Alcan Marine. This material is generally used in the construction of commercial and military vessels because of its superior characteristics compared to standard aluminum. Specifically, it is 15% stronger and 20% lighter, however it is also 25% more expensive than aluminum, so is not usually used in the construction of yachts. Similarly, the application of variable pitch props is rare in yachts for the same reason; they're expensive! However, they provide the ability to modulate speed and RPM's without increasing power, which improves fuel consumption and range. And this yacht comes with a spare pair of these expensive propellers.
Ciao underwent a partial refit at the Moonen Shipyard in Holland in 2019 which included new zero-speed electric stabilizers and a top-end rebuild on both main engines. In 2021 she received a complete paint job on both the hull and house. She is owned by a very knowledgeable yachtsman, who is also serious about selling her so that he can move on to his next adventure. She is priced to sell and available to be seen anytime.
